The heart of the Acolyte derailleur is our innovative SpringLock system. By pairing a customized linear rate high tension spring and a dual stage activation mechanism, we?ve developed a system that can provide substantial chain security when you need it and can be turned off when you don?t.? To engage the clutch, turn the engagement bolt clockwise until it clicks. There?s no way to overtighten the bolt. To disengage the clutch for wheel removal, flip the switch. It?s that simple.
Compatible with 12-42T and 12-46T 8-speed cassettes
Compatible with Acolyte shifters only
Direct path cable routing for smooth and responsive shifting
Innovative SpringLock chain retention keeps chain in place over rough terrain

Microshift's Acolyte is a good outlier. A low-cost 1x drivetrain with good chain tension like a clutch but with a lower cost dis-engageable high-tension spring.
The 3-piece drivetrain cost me $15 (shifter) $32 (rear derailleur) $30 (cassette) = $77. What a deal for what you get.
The only con is the lack of gear choices (only 8) but you do have the range you would need. If you are not racing, then the large jumps between gears should not be a problem.
Summed up: Great value ($77) for a 1x drivetrain with chain tension using a high-tension spring rather than a more expensive clutch
Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

These is a very good derailleur! Fits and operates well on my 1x8 GT Aggressor Pro. I can tell a difference having the clutch on and reducing chain slap noise. Much quieter over the stock derailleur which also had a long cage due to the stock 3x8 setup.
Also, the price is right even with the Acolyte 8 speed shifter. It may work with the stock microshift shifter, but I like the shifter placement on the Acolyte shifter.
