The
Zipp 303 has one of the most impressive pedigrees in the entire industry. These wheels have notched wins on the cobbles of the Paris-Roubiax and the Tour of Flanders among many others. The
303's have long been the staple of professional cyclists for their weight, durability and exceptional aerodynamics and they have gotten even better. The new
303''s feature the revolutionary
FireCrest technology, increased brake track, and updated
Zipp 88 hubs. What remained uncharged is the weight, a staggering 1498 grams. This wheel is slightly heavier than its tubular counterpart but with the convenience of a clincher tire.
FireCrest Technology introduces a new rim shape which deviates significantly from the standard v-shaped rim, the benefits are bountiful. The
FireCrest Profile gives you more speed, more stability and more strength. While other wheel manufacturers simply think about the aerodynamics involving the front half of wheel,
Zipp wheels can now effectively control airflow around the back half of the wheel using
FireCrest. The newest
303''s are eight percent faster than their predecessors that won Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders. The updated
303 clinchers still feature exposed spoke nipples, ABLC rim dimpling like the previous versions.
The
Zipp x45 rims on the
303''s offer a depth of 45mm and feature 18 Sapim CX-Ray spokes laced up the the
Zipp 88 hub, which has undergone a few changes as well. Featuring a reshaped hub body,
canted flanges to help to reduce the stress on spokes and a wider bearing stance resulting in increased stiffness and durability. The hubs boast the 17mm alloy axle, bearing pre-load adjustment, aerodynamic axel end-caps.
The 303''s are available in two different color options. The super stealthy beyond black version has anodized black hubs, black spokes and black decals. The Falcon Gray version features a more classic look with gray anodized hubs, silver spokes and white decals. The wide profile of the
303 FireCrest may cause a some fitment issues for a small number of road and triathlon frames. To ensure proper fit customers are urged to test the
303''s prior to purchasing. If you should encounter this issue any other spoked wheel within the
Zipp lineup would work as an alternative.
