I was a wheel builder and mechanic for 8 years. I just built some Stans Crest wheels using Sapim DB spokes and I used these on the drive-side with alloy nipples for all spokes. Easiest to grease-up all of the washers and then insert the nipples through the washers as you build. This is a great way to spread the load a little wider on the drive side and the weight is next to nothing to do so.
For carbon fiber rims, use these on ALL spoke holes front and back.
