The drill bit used to install the drop out saver is a 15/32" and can be used for both the narrow and wide savers. Installation instructions can be found here:

There isn't an issue using these with an aluminum frame with a fixed derailleur hanger.
If your frame has a replaceable hanger you will get better shifting by replacing it vs repairing it.
