The Surly Nate tire has a shred-your-face-off, run-over-anything, kung-fu grip knobby tread pattern. The casing is round and supple. Tall, widely-spaced knobs are siped for added grip and compliance. The knobs’ wide spacing means they dig deep and still shed the crap you’re riding through. The tread wraps a little around the sides of the tire, providing good knob contour even on very wide rims, which in turn allows good off-camber traction.
Tall, widely spaced knobs with siping for added grip
More aggressive tread than the other Surly fat tire options
Tread wraps around to the side of the tire a bit which allows for continued traction while turning
Always check with your rim manufacturer to verify rim & tire compatibility before assembly or use

asked by: a guest Can I run these on an i40 (40mm) wheel?
A.
anwered by: isteinhoff Yes, but I would say that it is on the narrowest end that a 3.8 could handle. It would basically make the tire very rounded, or balloon like. These rims are more ideally suited to a 2.6 to lower 3in tire platforms. Something with a 50-60mm rim width would be more apt. Like a Surly Rabbit Hole.
