Its custom Surly Chromoly steel frame and fork deliver the classic steel ride feel—stable, compliant, and durable—while a practical mount package keeps it ready for racks, fenders, and daily cargo.

Built around a disc-brake-specific chassis and a straightforward single-position vertical dropout (shared with the Surly Bridge Club), the Preamble focuses on the essentials that matter: tire clearance for real-world road-to-gravel riding, sensible fit across five sizes, and drivetrain flexibility for current or future setup changes.

• 100% Surly Chromoly steel frame and fork - Durable construction with a double-butted main triangle for a strong, confidence-inspiring ride on broken pavement and light gravel
• Size-specific wheel/tire clearance - XS–S fits up to 650b x 41mm (650b x 38mm with fenders); M–XL fits up to 700c x 41mm (700c x 38mm with fenders) for traction and comfort without guesswork
• Flat-bar control for city and paths - Upright leverage and predictable handling that suits commuting, bike paths, and mixed-surface cruising
• 1x and 2x drivetrain compatible - Supports simple 1x setups or wider-range 2x gearing depending on terrain and riding style
• Everyday cargo and weather readiness - Mounts for racks, fenders, and two bottle cages (seat tube and down tube) to keep the bike practical for commuting and longer rides
• Five sizes with improved standover on smaller frames - XS–XL fit range, with a slightly sloped top tube on XS and S for easier standover and comfort
