Chain rub on fat bike tires has been an issue with traditional crank designs that were intended for lesser tires. The Surly MWOD (Mr Whirly Offset Double) chainrings move the inner ring to the outer position and the middle chainring to the outer position.
The MWOD chainrings give you enough clearance to run the Big Fat Larry tire on a Rolling Darrell (or other 82mm rims) on a Pugsley or Salsa Mukluk (
the Mukluk may run into some frame rub issues)
Q: What cranks to the Surly MWOD chainrings fit?
A: The MWOD chainrings are designed to be used with the Surly Mr Whirly crank arms.
Q: I'm going from a Pugsley to a Moonlander and I have a Mr Whirly crankset, is this all I need?
A: No, the Pugsley is designed around a 17.5mm lateral offset while the Moonlander uses a 28mm offset. To make the adjustment Surly offers a
Moonlander Specific Spindle.
- Inner ring is stainless, Outer ring is Aluminum
- 58mm BCD
- The two rings are bolted to each other; the combo then bolts directly to the 58mm bolt circle on Mr. Whirly cranks (hardware included)
