I've noticed that some RD2 cranks seem to have a logo that says "Sugino RD" while others just say "Sugino" in a larger font. Do you know if they simply changed the branding at a certain point and one is just the newer style?
A.
anwered by: canteau
Sugino, changes the graphics from time to time but the cranks themselves remain the same.

What bottom bracket would I need to install this on a Surly Cross Check Frame to go along with a White Industries Freewheel

You will need a JIS square taper bottom bracket with a 110mm spindle.

Seems like this question is getting redundant, but 109mm spindle? 68mmx109 sugino bb?
A.
anwered by: canteau
If you are going to use a Sugino JIS bottom bracket with a 109mm spindle as a mm one way or the other on a geared bike really shouldn't be that big of an issue.
The only Sugino 109mm bottom bracket we currently carry is the 75 track bottom bracket which has an ISO taper and will not give you the same chainline as the required JIS taper and will create a shorter chainline closer to using around a 105mm JIS bottom bracket.

Could I put this crankset on my vilano fixed geared bike without changing the bb?
A.
anwered by: mlewis
Vilano has very little info on what components are used on their bikes, so we can't be sure without more information. If it is a square tapered BB though, then most likely this would work fine.

Does this crank have a unique backspacing. My frame is built for 107mm.
A.
anwered by: canteau
This crank will work with both 103 and 110mm bottom brackets depending on what the chain line requirements are for your frame. It may work with a 107 but you would want to use a chainline gauge to insure proper alignment.

As long as the BB is JIS taper, it should work fine.

acrabbI got this crank to upgrade my inexpensive Fuji 'track' bike (track dropouts, fixed gear, on the other hand heavy steel tubing, brake mounts, fender bosses really?). I'd never been able to get consistent chain tension (cheap out of round cranks/chainrings). This crankset, on a decent Shimano BB, has been a huge improvement. It's nicely finished though on the inner spider arms you can see grinder marks which I kind of dig, it's a change from the robotic perfection of Shimano. Sugino is a cool old Japanese company and this crankset captures that slightly retro aesthetic nicely.

dgertonI was about to retire an old Surly Crosscheck I had parted out building a new touring bike. Then I decided to put a little cash back in and build a single speed "baguette getter" with this crank. Now that ol' Surly is my favorite bike!
With a 9-speed chain and cog, it's super quiet. I guess no pins or ramps helps. Love it!
My only complaint is that Sugino didn't offer a few other teeth count choices.
