Yes this tool will work with the PD-M520 pedal. The 505 pedal was designed for OEM use and I was not able to confirm that it would or would not work with that model.
If the PD-M505 you have has the same star shaped cap like the PD-M520 has, this tool will also work for it.

I've been looking for one of these for a few years now. Great for those of us that want to maintain our pedals and make them last as long as possible. My LBS always told me the pedals couldn't be serviced and to just buy new ones when the old ones wore out. Easy to use simple tool.

it is a simple piece of plastic, but does what is needed. the arrows indicating which direction to turn to assemble or dis are a little confusing until you remember that the tool is meant to be used in a vice, and the pedal turned. it will keep you from marking up the splines with a pair of pliers.
