carlmanI've had a few of these cranks on various builds and they do do not let me down, regardless of how rough the riding gets. I'm using the SLX crank on a 5-spot now.
I think the double (M665) has a stronger construction than the triple, fyi. I LOVE the 36T ring for all around riding. I replace the 22 with a 26 for my purposes.. I'd rather just walk than use a 22.
You can set this up with a mid-cage rear der. using 26/36 and an 11-34 cassette. Using a 22 you have to use a long cage RD to cover the spread.
The only beef I have is about replacing the 36T ring. If you buy one, good luck getting an actual SLX 36T... Most will think it's an LX. The one that comes on this crank is black and made of some kind of composite that's stronger than the replacement you'll get. (usually) Maybe order the XT version of the 36T...
You can also replace the bearings at some point with ceramic using a bearing cup press... Then you have a seriously great spinning crank.

tonloc08This is a good solid crankset. Not the lightest or the strongest but a good combination of the two. For the price it can't be beat. I ride hard and I bent the axle on my truvativ stylo so I purchased the slx. Though a bit heavier, the slx has taken some punishment and still works as good as new. If you want a strong, dependable crankset that won't break the bank....look no further!

stumblemumbleGreat cranks, I came off of old Race Face Deus XC's and these are notably stiffer with easier preload adjustment. Felt great the first time I got up on them. I run them 1x9, nice narrow chainline on these.
They lose a point because shimano should include the two dollar plastic preload thumb-wrench thing you have to buy. It probably costs twenty cents to make, so why it's not included is beyond me.
