If you are running SRAM RED or XX the PC-1091R should be your chain of choice. The PC-1091R is SRAM's top level chain featuring heavily chamfered plates for smooth quiet operation.
The PC-1091R is SRAM''s lightest 10 speed chain by about 30 grams when compared to the standard PC-1091. This is achieved by using hollow pins and outer links. While weight savings are great the chain also needs to be dependable because a broken chain can ruin your race. The PC-1091R is the same chain all of the SRAM sponsored riders use, whether is climbing the steepest roads in the Alps or bombing down the slopes of Whistler.
Like all of the SRAM 10 speed chains the PC-1091R uses the Power-Lock chain link. Unlike the venerable SRAM Power-Link which is reusable, the Power-Lock is designed to be a onetime use link because of the tighter tolerances placed on a 10 speed chain.
Includes 1 Power-Lock connector
Works with all SRAM or Shimano 10 speed road groups, 10 speed SRAM mountain groups
Not optimal for Shimano Dyna Sys 10 speed mountain groups, stick with a Shimano 10 speed mountain chain for best performance

I had a pc 1051 previously. The 1091R definitely beats the 1051. It shifts more smoothly and is a lot quieter all without changing the cassette. It was also easy to swap. It weighs less than a standard chain which helps lower rotational inertia. I have had no bad experiences or quirks with the 1091R since I bought it.

What a huge difference that little R makes. PC-1091R is MUCH quieter than the PC-1091 and the shifting is silky smooth. I switched out my RED 11-23 cassette for a RED 11-28 for hilly courses. Of course, I needed a new chain...
Anybody who's run a SRAM RED gruppo knows they're loud especially compared to Shimano -- RED cassettes are light and shift beautifully, but they're like speakers, amplifying every little sound. Although my RED gruppo w a PC-1091 chain was only 4 months old, I was SHOCKED by how much quieter it ran with the PC-1091R chain.
Good chain, but only got 2400 miles out of it before it stretched over the 50% mark and started to run sloppy on my Red gruppo (chain kept immaculate throughout). I pedal with more force and a lower cadence, so I'm sure that doesn't help prevent stretching.
