The best thing about SRAM Apex, is that it doesn't lack the features of the higher end groups just the weight saving materials that most of just don''t need for our day to day riding. The unique thing about the Apex rear derailleur is that the medium cage''s maximum for the rear cog is 32, which essentially eliminates the need for a road triple.

asked by: a guest what is the difference between medium and short? mine matches the picture but not sure
anwered by: mwirth The longer the cage the greater your max capacity cog/chainring combination. Short cage is often found on most road bikes while medium cage is used on gravel bikes, cross bikes. I bought this derailleur to work with a SRAM XX 11-32 cassette. I wanted some low gears to deal with the local hills. Using Rival shifters and Crank. Shifts are smooth and precise, just as good as the XTR on my mountain bike.
I'm thrilled with the compatibility SRAM provides between its' road groups. Nice that the XX cassette is the same spacing as the road cassettes.
