SRAM set the bar for road shifting performance when they introduced the RED group a few years back. This new drivetrain group quickly made it's way on to not only Pro-Tour bikes but also on the bikes of riders who desire the highest performance possible.
The 2013 RED Front Derailleur is a completely new design that borrows nothing from the previous version, because the cable actuation is completely new it is not interchangeable with crank sets or shifters other than the new ''13 RED Group.
The action of the front derailleur instead of just simply pivoting back and forth, the derailleur cage actually rotates to maintain a consistent angular relationship with the chain. SRAM calls it Yaw Technology, and it eliminates the need for shifter trim.
We today''s carbon frames a dropped chain can mean more than just some paint rub. SRAM is the first company to from the factory include an integrated K-Edge Style chain keeper.

asked by: a guest You claim this is not backwards compatible with the old SRAM red? Are you relying on SRAM?
A.
anwered by: canteau SRAM only supports use with the new shifter, we have been able to get them to work with older versions of the double tap, but results have been mixed based on the crank used and the frame it was mounted to.

anwered by: canteau Part number 333222380512 is for the band clamp adaptor. SRAM will be releasing the derailleur and band clamp all in one box in late summer of 2012.

This derailleur works great with the 2012 exogram crank, which I was a little concerned with before buying. It performs as advertised, eliminating trim completely so that the chain never rubs. I'm able to use both the chainrings with all ten cogs flawlessly. The chain spotter is a nice touch, making a dropped chain about impossible.
