When you look at the vast amount of tools your bike shop has there are very few aside from general hand tools that are a must for your home work shop. The Park FR-5.2G Cassette Lockring Tool is one of those tools that any home mechanic must have to install and remove most cassettes and Shimano CenterLock Rotors. The FR-5.2G features a guide pin for added stability when used with a hollow axle Q/R hub. If you have a solid axle hub you would want to use the Park FR-5.2 and thru-axle users would want the Park FR-5GT
The Park FR-5.2G is the updated version and replacement for the FR-5G and FR-5.1G. Made from heat treated tool steel the FR-5.2G has a thinner sidewall and increased machining for better clearance over larger thru-axle equipped hubs. A deeper spline profile makes the Park FR-5.2G work better with SRAM XD 11 and 12-speed cassettes that could sometimes be a challenge with the older tools.
The Park FR-5.2G Lockring Tool works with the following cassette and brands:
You will need a couple other things to work with the Park FR-5.2G. The first is a bench vice or adjustable wrench that is capable of opening to 1", we like and use the Park PAW-12 adjustable wrench. If you are purchasing the FR-5.2 to remove a cassette you will also need a chain whip with the Park SR-2.2 being the go to model in our shop.
