Offset determines the distance between the wheel axle and steerer tube, directly influencing how your bike handles. Shorter offsets provide greater stability but require more steering input, while longer offsets offer quicker handling at the expense of high-speed stability. For 29” DH bikes, 54mm and 58mm offsets are most common, while 27.5” front wheels typically pair with 46mm.
