These are great bars. I see a lot of these on work bikes and commuter bikes in Japan; they are very functional.
I replaced the straight bar on my fixed-gear ATB and I mounted them upside-down--so they sweep down instead of up--and wrapped with black cinelli tape. This gives me a much more upright and comfortable position than the straight bar, but still a little lower than the normal mounting. And I can use the forward position for a more aero position or for better leverage on climbing.
Summed up: Nice bars. Light, sturdy. Good hand position and upright riding position.
Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

I bought a set of these several years ago and I love them. They are super strong and I can cruise around town with them or take them off road on a mountain bike ride.
I changed bikes a year or so ago so I took the bars off the mountain bike I sold and put them on my wife's mountain bike.
I recently decided that I wanted to go back to these bars on my new bike, but my wife flat out refused to let them go!
So I now am the proud owner of 2 sets of these Nitto Bars! I think they are the coolest and most functional bars I have ever had on my mountain bike. :)
