Assegai Tire - 29 x 2.5, 3C MaxxTerra, EXO

Maxxis Assegai is a 29 x 2.5 mountain bike tire built for aggressive trail, enduro, and downhill riding in mixed conditions, with a focus on predictable traction and consistent cornering feel on loose dirt, wet roots, and rocks.

3C MaxxTerra rubber targets the sweet spot between grip, rolling resistance, and tread life, while the EXO casing adds sidewall cut and abrasion protection without making the tire feel overly stiff. Designed primarily as a front tire, the Assegai is also the signature model of World Cup Champion Greg Minnaar.

Dialed handling for mixed-condition riding

1. Mixed-condition tread height - Knob height sits between the Minion DHR II and Shorty for a balanced feel when conditions change lap to lap
2. Ramped center knobs - Reduces rolling resistance on hardpack and transitions without giving up the braking and control aggressive riding demands
3. Transition knob design - A small intermediate knob between center and side tread smooths the cornering handoff for less “dead zone” and more predictable lean-in
4. 3C MaxxTerra compound - Intermediate triple compound improves grip while maintaining strong tread wear and efficient rolling for long trail and enduro days
5. EXO sidewall protection - Adds cut and abrasion resistance for rocky terrain while staying lightweight and flexible for better trail feel
6. Front-focused traction - Tuned for confident steering and consistent bite, especially on slippery roots and rock surfaces
