pat...@gm...l.comIt's definitely a Kool Thing. Good lock - more weight = more security (in general). The lock is not susceptible to the "bic pen trick" and the people writing reviews on other websites complaining about the key breaking are at least a bit daft as the lock base and head are unidirectional (on my lock, the side with the "frame carrier" tab is always inserted into the yellow side) and although you are able to insert the lock reversed, you're only able to lock it when it's assembled the correct way- a lesson most primates are able to learn quickly and without trying to force their mildly beefy key until it breaks.

Cafe LattePros: Includes 3 keys ( plenty of spares ); one of these keys includes a blue LED light built into the key handle. This lock looks and feels extremely tough! Enough clearance for my needs.
Cons: One of the spare keys had a few burrs, which I cleaned up with a soft wire brush.

A GuestThis lock is awesome! My only problem is the mounting bracket, which is more than sufficient with any other Krypto lock. It doesn't quite cut it for this one, given the weight. It's also a PAIN to remove or put on. I just bypassed it and throw the lock on the frame. The price can't be beat, and for the amount of protection... I live in NYC, and I trust this lock.

theothermichaeldiazI read all the reviews for the other Kyrptonite's and settled with this guy. Sure it is heavy, but throw it in your bag or basket and off you go. I use this in combination with one of the Kyrptonite cables for worry free lock-ups.
I am a grad student on one of the largest college campuses in the US and notorious for bike thefts. I have to lock up might bike (All-City Big Block) for 6hr seminars and don't think twice about it.
I've had the lock for about a month and no broken keys, no Fail Blog episodes. If I would have bought the orange step down version I would have had second thoughts. If theifs can get at this thing, I figure I gave it my best and will buy another bike.

A GuestThe lock seems very tough and is heavy as most reviews warn but not an issue for me.
The insurance form needs to be filled out 7 days after purchase and buying it online uses up that time if you go with the cheapest method. I ordered on a Friday afternoon and got it a week later on Friday. This left no time to have the bike appraised. Again not a problem because I really don't think anyone can get this lock open without the key.
I saved over $20 buying from Tree Fort that I would have paid at my local bike shop.

willzx6rSturdy, Heavy lock, works great. Mounting bracket doesn't work for my bike but I just put it in the bag.

seraphan6This lock is great. As others have already said, the bracket for mounting it on your bike while riding is not very helpful. I guess it might work better on a large or very large frame, but I'm not sure. This is one heavy lock - 4.4 lbs! It should protect your bike from most thieves, and yeah, you could probably fend off an attacker with it. I wouldn't want to get hit with it.

geetlordIve been using this lock for about 3 years now, It feels solid, and its appearance should be a deterrent to any casual thieves. It is a little heavy, but no more so than any comparable locks. The mounting bracket is mostly useless, but I just strap the lock to my bike rack, or put it in my backpack when riding.

will.pauleAwesome, awesome bike lock. Pretty heavy though; you can definitely feel the weight in your pack, but totally worth it if you feel your locked bike may be in jeopardy. No one is getting through this lock.

austinknierimHeavy and expensive,But unless the perp has a grinder and 10 minutes your bike is safe.

ajbarreraI have had this lock for 8 years and it still works like when it was new. I bought a second lock with a longer shackle for my motorcycle.
