These are the best brake pads for my year-round commuter/touring bike. Cantilever brakes are not fun to install and you must properly toe-in the brakes otherwise horrendous noises ensue. But if you take the time, these brakes pads are a dream in wet, dry, all-weather conditions.
Summed up: Great pads for all-weather cantilever breaks
Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

I replaced the original pads after a thousand miles with these. Wow! They have much better stopping power and do not grind dirt into the rim. They are prone to noise on the front.
I'm using them on Avid Single Digit 7's on a Surly LHT.
In the past I have used very soft brake pads, which obviously wear out quicker under harsher use. After a couple wet muddy ridding sessions I decided I wanted a brake pad that would not only last a little longer, but be more suitable to those conditions. The Kool Stop by MTB have a longer surface rim area and a very handy notch on the end to assist with mud/gunk removal from the rim. I have taken my bike off road four times since installing my new brake pads and WOW is how I describe my experience. Beware, these brakes will pull you up very quickly, their brake power is like nothing I have used before. The composite material works well and my rims remain relatively clean after a wet/muddy ride. Compliments to MTB for the Kool Stop brake pad, I love these brake pads.
Fantastic brake pads. I replaced my front Avid Shorty 4 canti stock brake pads with these and this was a HUGE improvement on stopping power. I used the dual compound in front & solid salmon in the back (not for any particular reason other than trying both out). Definitely will buy Kool-Stop replacement pads for all my rim-brake bikes from now on.
Absolutely awesome pads for rim brakes. Quiet, strong grip, great modulation! Because of their long length, they are a bit hard to adjust perfectly, but that is the nature of rim brakes.
