It's widely known that the BB7 is the standard for cable-actuated mountain disc brakes. Avid took all the awesome adjustability and performance features that make the BB7 the best and applied them to a road version that is compatible with short pull road levers. Until they figure out how to smoosh a master cylinder in your brake/shift levers, the BB7 road is the pinnacle of braking performance available to drop bar bikes. And even when that happens, we''re willing to bet that plenty will stick with the BB7s for the outstanding simplicity and price/performance ratio - just as many do for their mountain bikes.

asked by: giaff do you have to dish the front wheel to use one of these? Thinking of using it on a tandem.
A.
anwered by: canteau It is really going to depend on the hub and rim you are using. Most modern disc hubs and rims are designed to minimize the amount of dish required.

asked by: a guest Can Tree Fort get the BB7 Road brake as a caliper only or with the 203mm rotor?
A.
anwered by: bkearns It does come as a caliper only, but not with a 203mm rotor. Most road applications for disc brakes don't require that much stopping power. It is theoretically possible to run a 203mm rotor, but you would have to buy an aftermarket rotor and the suitable caliper adaptor for your frame.

I'm running a set of these on a commuter bike and after the initial set up and adjustment period the brakes are running great. I was hesitant at first to get these, but glad I went with them. Work great in all conditions.
After using canti brakes on my last cross bike, I really began to see the merits of discs. These stop really well in the wet, stop my daughter's Trail-A-Bike with ease, and are much easier to adjust than my old BB5s.
