The first technical cycling balaclava with a brim. The 45Nrth Lung Cookie features double-layer 100% merino wool and flat-lock stitching for itch-free wear, and the long neck drape provides extra protection from the harsh cold and biting winds that 45Nrth's home state of Minnesota dishes out.
When you''re ramping up the effort and need to vent some extra heat, the breathable nose and mouth cover pulls down to allow you to quickly dump some heat.
100% Merino wool is a soft natural fiber that doesn''t itch, and insulates even when wet
Built in brim keeps its shape, even when crammed into pocket
Nose and mouth cover are sewn into the sides of the balaclava, they don''t detach
I bought 3 and use them for mountain biking motorcycle dirt riding and snow blowing Rode with one in brutal cold conditions on copper harbor Michigan mountain biking in brutal weather and was totally the top dog could have sold 50 of them
I bought the Lung Cookie balaclava for my winter commutes.
The merino wool is soft and does not itch at all, but it is not as thick as I expected, I was hoping for something more like my Smartwool neck gaiter.
It does a nice job of covering the sides of my face and covers more of my cheeks than my other balaclava.
The mouthpiece is loose enough that it doesn't prevent me from breathing through my mouth when putting in extra effort. When in place, the nose piece does interfere with breathing through my nose a bit.
And yes, the balaclava does cause my glasses to fog but I haven't found one that doesn't.
Summed up: Very nice balaclava for winter commutes
Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

All right first I really liked the look of this thing so I purchased it without question. I have done a few rides with the 45North Lung Cookie Balaclava and just can't seem to get the hang of it. I find myself fighting with it the entire ride. I'd like to think I don't have an odd shaped or overly huge head. This is debatable I guess however no one has ever told me "Hey guy, your head is just way too big." I can't get the under layer facehole part to stay on my chin and it sneaks up and covers my mouth constantly. Maybe the opening is too small for me or maybe my face is too big. I have contemplated cutting the facehole open more to make it fit better. Also, I was out in 35 degrees and the top of my head was cold. I have a full head of hair so I don't know what the problem is. I ended up putting on a second balaclava over top for warmth. The problem is the visor, which looks cool, also deters you from layering.
A huge pro is that when it fits as described my glasses did not fog. You guys know what a plus this is. Now this isn't gospel because as soon as I started riding the facehole part rode up over my mouth and breath went right into my glasses which at that point fogged.
Anyway, I really wanted to like this product since I like 45North stuff and I'm not trying to hate on this. It may be me, my face might be too huge, or maybe it just needs to break in. I don't know but right now I am struggling.
