A GuestVery happy with my purchase, I actually tried on Louis Garneau"s, Shimano's and a couple others. These were the best fitting, so I bought them. Used in temps down to zero and they kept my feet warm. Have used them in the mud and wet weather and they keep my feet dry. I usually wear a size 12 us, purchased a 47, there's enough room to wear a heavy hunting sock. Tree Fort Bikes offered a real nice buying experience.

A GuestMy wife got these for me for Christmas to replace Specialized Defrosters I bought in 2012. I was looking for a pair of bike shoes that I can mountain bike and commute to work in no matter the conditions. The defrosters worked well if it wasn't really wet but would get wet if any water got on them due to no gusset on the tongue. The Japanthers have a fully gussetted tongue that won't let anything slip past. Another nice feature is that these are really a tall boot, not really a typical bike shoe. Compared to my old defrosters which I thought were pretty big, these are giant! I've commuted in once on them and look forward to riding more.
They are super stiff and feel like they need to break in a bit. I think I am going to find that the ankle cuff is a bit snug and I've got pretty average legs. Hopefully it doesn't mess up my circulation. If you've got girthy cankles you might want to try these on before you buy.
I'll hit the trail with them tomorrow and see how they do for MTB.

A GuestSo far these look like a winner. Much improved over the FasterKatts in almost every way. Fit is great. I wear a 43 summer shoe and went with a 45 in the Japanther so that I could wear heavy wool socks and truly make this a 3 season shoe/boot. The drawstring cinch provides an almost custom feel to the fit which I really like since it accommodates whatever sock combo I choose to wear. Haven't had them long enough to comment on durability but they seem very well made. I also haven't used them in really cold temps (sub 20F with wind) but with the right socks, I think an hour and a half of warm feet should be in the cards. After that, anything other than something like the Wolvhammer or Lake 303 is going to see cold creeping in.

TalabardioThese are well made, stout, warm and waterproof and far, far too tight in the ankle area. A definite design flaw. They can be stretched internally with something hard like a croquet ball so that you can eventually fully close the zipper, but beware chafing of the ankles (even slender ankles).
