bhcohenI bought the Lung Cookie balaclava for my winter commutes.
The merino wool is soft and does not itch at all, but it is not as thick as I expected, I was hoping for something more like my Smartwool neck gaiter.
It does a nice job of covering the sides of my face and covers more of my cheeks than my other balaclava.
The mouthpiece is loose enough that it doesn't prevent me from breathing through my mouth when putting in extra effort. When in place, the nose piece does interfere with breathing through my nose a bit.
And yes, the balaclava does cause my glasses to fog but I haven't found one that doesn't.

A GuestI bought mine a few years ago and have been VERY impressed. I commute year-round in Chicago and have really appreciated the double-layer option this offers. From 30F to 20, I'll put the windstop behind my head and enjoy the seal it makes around my jacket's collar. From 20 to 10, the windstop comes over my face and keeps the wind off my face. Yes, my glasses do fog but I think if I was wearing something with an anti-fog coating (actual sunglasses, not just safety glasses) it would be less of an issue.
For REALLY cold days, single digit and below, I pull the wool up over my face to recirculate warm, humid air and add ski goggles which hold the windstop in place and solve the fogging issue. I also add a hat with windstop over the top to keep my noggin toasty.
It's a little pricey but has a 40 degree useful range which is more than I can say for any other piece i own. Merino wool has the added bonus of not smelling like soup after one wear.

mnasvadiAll right first I really liked the look of this thing so I purchased it without question. I have done a few rides with the 45North Lung Cookie Balaclava and just can't seem to get the hang of it. I find myself fighting with it the entire ride. I'd like to think I don't have an odd shaped or overly huge head. This is debatable I guess however no one has ever told me "Hey guy, your head is just way too big." I can't get the under layer facehole part to stay on my chin and it sneaks up and covers my mouth constantly. Maybe the opening is too small for me or maybe my face is too big. I have contemplated cutting the facehole open more to make it fit better. Also, I was out in 35 degrees and the top of my head was cold. I have a full head of hair so I don't know what the problem is. I ended up putting on a second balaclava over top for warmth. The problem is the visor, which looks cool, also deters you from layering.
A huge pro is that when it fits as described my glasses did not fog. You guys know what a plus this is. Now this isn't gospel because as soon as I started riding the facehole part rode up over my mouth and breath went right into my glasses which at that point fogged.
Anyway, I really wanted to like this product since I like 45North stuff and I'm not trying to hate on this. It may be me, my face might be too huge, or maybe it just needs to break in. I don't know but right now I am struggling.
