Q.

How are they on hard packed snow/asphalt?
A.
anwered by: canteau
The Ice Spiker is made to be a winter trail tire, with 402 studs which should give you plenty of grip and the carbide studs should hold up well on the paved sections of your ride.
This tire is going to roll slower than a commuter oriented studded tire that is going to have less studs and a lower volume but it is going to have way more grip.

Are these folding or wire bead? Can they be run tubeless?
A.
anwered by: canteau
They are folding bead, you will have mixed luck running them tubeless because the rubber shrinks and the sealant can freeze up.

mar...@co...t.netBest tires for the ice! I had these in the 26 and loved them, they are even better in the 29 because they are tubeless!

tspangGreat tubeless-ready MTB tire for winter riding, especially in the Eastern US where ice is ever-present. These have a better contact patch than the closest equivalent Nokians, and don't seem as prone to throw studs (although I've not had studded tires that don't lose at least few during heavy use). The shear number of studs makes them heavy and a bit sluggish to accelerate, but no more so than equivalent tires in my opinion. I've used them in winter adventure races where others couldn't ride or even walk their bikes, so they paid off for me. The price seems to have risen sharply since I purchased, so that's my only downside.

A GuestI ran these tires tubeless in Fairbanks AK all winter. I have a hilly 7 mile commute and these tires were amazing. They are slow (like anything this knobby would be) and they are loud, but the studs are super sharp and they didn't wear visibly over the whole year. I've ridden Nokians as well, but these are much higher performance weight-wise, and have better traction. They actually let you pull out of icy ruts and you can corner aggressively even on glare ice.

A GuestHaven't ridden them too much yet, but they rip on the ice of the Kuskokwim river.
