The popular Schwalbe Marathon tire has been further adapted for the touring or commuting cyclist who wants a quick, 700c tire but can still hold its own on wet roads, rocky roads, and off-road, and fend off road hazards. The result was the Schwalbe Marathon Tour.
SmartGuard protection reduces risk of puncture from thorns, shards, and other common culprits. Reflective sidewalls provide added visibilty in those early morning commutes or touring in messy weather. And the 35mm wide tire provides lots of comfort, while not feeling sluggish and slow.
This tire features:
- Marathon Silica compound for added tire lifespand and reduced rolling resistance
- Versatile tread design, optimal for on and off road use
- 700c x 35 size
- Steel bead
- Recommened PSI of 50-85
- Weighs in around 890g

A GuestI bought marathon tires for my last tour because I has so many flats. I haven't had a flat since. Best protection for the price.

cherribuijkI feel like I could probably leave children under the watch of these tires. They're so, so dependable. On the daily commute featuring patches of broken glass, tricky linear breaks in asphalt where curb meets the road, loose gravel, etc., my Marathon Plus Tours crunch everything down and carry on without a scratch. From my experience, the closer the PSI is run toward the max 85, the twitchier handling can be on loose over hardpack. Around 65-70, it seems to handle everything with equal reliability. Like previous reviewers have said, it's not made for speed, but it certainly isn't slow, mostly just on the heavy side. If you want something you can install and forget about, the Marathon Plus Tour is a great choice.

cjk133This is a fabulous touring tire.
I was hesitant about using such a skinny tire for loaded touring on secondary roads, but it rides as if it was much wider. It rides gravel and dirt very well too.
Many times I was nudged off the road by traffic on steep mountain descents, and i was able to rumble over onto the soft shoulder and return to the pave with confidence.
I was even able to ride single track with this tire, both loaded and on after dinner excursions. It proved to be just about indestructible and very sure footed.
I never had to change my pressure for riding conditions - 80-85psi and it rides everything. With that said, this is NOT a fast tire. The smartguard and rubber is noticeably squishy, so the tire rolls with a significant contact patch regardless of pressure. But ultimately I found this to be most desirable in a loaded touring tire, esp on a route that featured sketchy pavement, frequent rain, gravel roads, and an occasional trail. I will probably not bother searching for any other loaded road tour tire again...this one really did the trick.
This also seemed to be the fastest wearing schwalbe marathon I've ever used. However, after 2000 miles I can still discern the tread pattern on the rear tire, and I'm guessing there's a lot more meat left. Not a single flat tire on two trips (2000 miles) between two bikes....that's a pretty good record.
