Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar

asked by: A Visitor
What's the length of the straight grip area?
answered by: mwirth
You have a little over 7.5'' on straight grip space. Thanks!
asked by: A Visitor
Will these work on my Salsa Blackborow?
answered by: mwirth
Yes, but you should get the 31.8mm version unless you intend on swapping out the stem. Thanks!
asked by: A Visitor
will ultegra (3 years old) brifters fit on these?
answered by: t.young
I don't know why you'd want to use road shifters on this bar, I doubt it would work.
asked by: firechuckh
Can I squeeze my Shimano bar end shifters into these?
answered by: t.young
It may depend on the diameter of the shifters you have, without the bar and shifters in front of me it's impossible to say.
asked by: A Visitor
What is the I.D. at the ends?
answered by: t.young
22.2mm OD.
asked by: A Visitor
Good morning, I have a Jamis Coda Sport bike. Can I get the bars in steel?..Thanks

This is only made in aluminum.
asked by: A Visitor
Will the Soma Clarence Bar work with grip shifters?
answered by: mwirth
Should work just fine with a grip shifter. Thanks!
asked by: A Visitor
what is the actual weight of this Clarence black 25.4 handlebar?
answered by: mwirth
350 grams. Thanks!

good for a windy commute ?
answered by: canteau
The Soma Clarence Bars are going to put you in a more up right position if you use the same stem that is on your bike. This will increase drag slowing you down.

For windy conditions I would recommend a pursuit bar such as the Nitto RB-21.

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
Very comfortable. Used with Ergon grips. They are wider then I am used to but once I get riding a few miles I forget about that. The bars have good room for brakes, grips and my Rohloff shifter

If you like the On-One Mary bar, but have difficulty finding it, then this is the bar for you. I will stick with the Clarence bars anyway since it is domestic.

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
Very comfortable bar. I replaced my low-rise mtb bar with Clarence. Feels weird referring to a handlebar in human terms, but it has more personality than the last one; steering feels much more 'connected' and responsive now. The hand/arm position feels more natural, as Soma predicts. Cable housings came up a little short since this bar is wider than my old Bontrager, so I had to replace those to maintain correct cable routing. I have only ridden bikepaths so far, so we'll see if it's the bees knees on trails. I like it.

Summed up: Comfortable, responsive, wider bar!

These are great bars.
I have another bike with a pair of Mary One

If you once rode with the On One Mary Bar and really liked its hand positioning then you will like this bar too as it is essentially the same shape, rise, sweep, etc.

Summed up: First time doing business with these folks. This handlebar had the best price on the internet.

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
I am really happy that I bought these handlebars. I put them on my rigid SS and I feel like the hand position is much more comfortable. I did lose a little bit of the rise but having my hands at a slight angle is much more ergonomic. I mainly use these for light single track but I feel like you can use these for pretty much anything but down hill.

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
I installed these SOMA Clarence bars on my 2011 Jamis Coda sport commuter. These are much more comfortable than the stock flatbars though a little on the wide side. One thing to keep in mind is that these bars are only available in one clamp size and shims may be needed. Build and finish quality are excellent, and they look cool too!

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
Installed these in 31.8 model on my Trek Excaliber. I ride mostly on smooth trails and paths and plan on some dirt road style touring as well. I, like many other reviewers, found standard straight style MTB bars to have an uncomfortable hand position. I found when mounting on the same stem, replacing the almost flat bars which came on the bike, the reach was very similar but the hand position hand position was much more comfortable with the 40 degree sweep angle. I wish they were a bit longer, but will likely get used to the length.

Summed up: Good replacement for straight style MTB bars if you experience hand pain.

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
Haven't had the chance to test them on my most technical ride yet, but on my winter commute, and now on some epic double-track rides, these bars were fabulous. Far more comfortable than NorthRoad/Albatross or straight-ish carbon riser bars, I think this bend/rise is the sweet spot for all-around "mountain" biking. I found them a bit wide for sneaking through traffic in town, but the width feels perfect off-pavement. Also, I disagree that the bend allows you to use your current stem, I found using a stem 2cm shorter (than what I used with straighter riser bars) gave me the same zippy feel that I like in a stem/bar combo.
Bikes I've used this bar on: '92 Miyata RidgeRunner "Kid-Hauler", '08 Niner MCR & '11 Vassago Bandersnatch.

Summed up: Not sure how they'd handle big air, but I find them to be a great all-around off-pavement bar.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Soma Fabrications Clarence Bar:
I put these on my rigid ss Stumpjumper and they're awesome, it feels like a new bike! I was having major wrist pain with my straight bar and it's totally gone now. Also, the steering feels very controlled and responsive while providing incredible leverage for out of the saddle climbs. I did add a slightly longer stem to compensate for the sweep but other than that they were plug and play.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.
