Mounted in place of a front derailleur, the Chain Keeper works with single and 1x multi speed drivetrains using a narrow chain. The chain block surrounds the chain as it meets the chainring and prevents it from skipping off.

Chain Keeper

  • Not designed for downhill/freeride/big hit use

Review of the Paul Components Paul Chain Keeper 35.0 - Black:
I decided to go with the Paul Chain Keeper for my 'cross 1x9 set up instead of a chain guard and minder on the inside. The Paul Chain Keeper looks cool and is easy to adjust but I can't seem to adjust the chain rub completely out. It either rubs on one side of the cassette or the other. Right now, I have it adjusted to rub on the larger cogs and it makes me cranky whenever I'm climbing...I've got an order in for a chain guard...too bad.

Summed up: Your money would be better spent on a chain guard.

Review of the Paul Components Paul Chain Keeper 35.0 - Black:
Started with an N'Gear Jump Stop and Blackspire C4 Bash Ring on my wife's Small Niner EMD. Kept throwing the chain.

Talked to a Lot of people and they all had good things to say about the Paul.

Had issues from the start getting it to fit the small frame. Had to grind away quite a bit of the clamp to clear the down tube and welds.

After that it fit well. Took a little fiddling to get it set up correctly.

Works very well. Only thrown the chain once in 5 months. Does not rub in any of the gears.

Plus I no longer have to run the Bash Ring.

Summed up: Works great with a little customizing.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Paul Components Paul Chain Keeper 35.0 - Black:
I've been running this for the past year on my Lynskey Ridgeline 29er and it works great. I have to tighten the drive side bolt first because I wouldn't have any room to tighten the bolt with an allen wrench since it's sooo close to the down-tube. Then I tighten the outer bolt. However, when you do it that way, you have to compensate for a little more space (~1mm) because while you tighten the outer bolt, the chain block will creep in towards the chain. Good luck. Patience....Thanks for the tip (Mtnbikej) for the grinding of the bracket. I wanted to order another chain keeper for my other frame but didn't work out well because of the welds around the BB area. I have to go that low when I run a 32T chainring with the full-sus 29er when I ride harder/steeper trails. Other than that, I run a 34T. Will be grinding (mtnbikej).

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.
