Review of the Shimano PD-M540 Clipless Pedals:
I use the PD-M540 as a road and cyclocross pedal. With the tension all the way up and single direction cleats I always feel confident in contact but know I can get out if death is imminent. I guess they are a little heavy, if you're a weight weenie, but they are burly. I've bashed mine on fat rocks, dumped the bike commuting and never had a problem with integrity. I will continue to buy these pedals for any of my bikes.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Shimano PD-M540 Clipless Pedals:
I purchased these to replace my M520 pedals that were (creaking) on the bike. So far, I am very happy. They seem to be built a lot better and have a much better design. In my opinion, they don't look cheap. I did research and chose these over the XT pedals.

I have since put about 50 miles on them and, although that is not enough time to truly review their long term durability, in the short term they were everything I wanted.

The price at Tree Fort was incredible!

Summed up: Great pedal - Great price

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Shimano PD-M540 Clipless Pedals:
I think these are great pedals for the price. They are very easy to cleat into (double sided definitely a positive aspect of these pedals). I have never had a problem with entry or release. Great step up from the platform spd pedals, great pedal to introduce yourself to clipless, look great.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Shimano PD-M540 Clipless Pedals:
I really like these pedals. Switched from the Shimano dual platform model because I wanted something lighter and less bulky. They are very durable, and Tree Fort has them at a great price. I have become a strictly Shimano pedals cyclist, and these really impressed me for what they are. The double sided entry is perfect for someone trying out clipless for the first time. No need to get the more expensive model. Work great for commuting and longer rides. Strongly recommend!

Review of the Shimano PD-M540 Clipless Pedals:
This is the second pair of PD540's I have owned. Both pairs suffered a catastrophic failure at the threads for the spindle nut on the right pedal.
The first set made it almost 7500 miles of road riding. The second pair made it less than a mile of road riding before the failure occurred.
I have several sets of PD520's on both road and mountain bikes and have not experienced this kind of failure on them

Summed up: I am hoping this will be replaced under warranty. If not, I will replace them with something other than 540's.
