Shimano XT shifters are the best bang for the buck in the Shimano line up. The new ones have the dual pull release which allows you to use them either like traditional Shimano shifters (with your index finger and thumb) or like the newer Sram shifter (thumb/thumb) which I have gotten used to using after being on a Sram equiped bike for the last several seasons.
In the past I have almost always used the XT's and with these new one's I will continue forward using them.
