Salsa has been making stems since 1983 and were one of the first companies to produce a stem designed specifically for mountain biking.
The ProMoto 1 draws from it's heritage but has evolved to meet the requirements demanded by today''s cyclists and the latest technology they use. Using the same basic design as the ProMoto 2 the ProMoto 1 gets more advanced CNC work to shed excess weight in both the body and faceplate of the stem.
The graphics and glossy finish are designed to match Salsa''s other ProMoto 1 series parts.
Salsa''s S.U.L. (Stiff Upper Lip) faceplate design was originally made with 2 bolts that gripped like 4. The new S.U.L. II faceplates use 4 bolts to even better spread the torque across the face plate further reducing stress. This is especially important in preventing carbon bars from turning into expensive tooth picks. The S.U.L II can also be run with a positive or negative rise, whereas the older stems would have required 2 separate stems.
