The Portland Design Works Gravity Taillight features a pretty handy addition over your average bike taillight. It's got all the usually things you have come to expect like multiple run modes, a long battery, USB rechargeable battery, it mounts to your seatpost, among other things. But what makes the Gravity so special is the built in accelerometer. This makes it possible or the Gravity to illuminate when it detects you stopping. This feature is referred to as brake light mode. The light simply gets a bit brighter when stopping. It''s magic!

The "brake light" feature is a neat idea but it is poorly executed. It keeps giving false positive readings and frequently looks like I am braking when I am not. Since I have to mount it on the seat stay, I can't sufficiently compensate for the bad angle of the accelerometer. But even if I had the full range of motion, I would have to point it in a less-than-ideal downward angle. Otherwise it seems to function as advertised.
