The 26x2.0"
Gravdal is based on
45NRTH's popular 700c
studded commuter tire. Many people turn to old 26" mountain bikes for Winter commutes because they can be had for a song on the secondary market and the wider clearance clears ice and slush better than a narrower road frame.
Like the 700c version of the
Gravdal,
45NRTH offers the 26x2.0 in 2 versions, a 33tpi wire bead tire and a 120tpi folding bead tire. Both versions feature siped thread lugs with with an oval shaped stud pattern.
120tpi tires include
216 concave studs.
Concave studs have an aluminum base for weight savings with a carbide tip that has a concave shaped crown creating a sharper and larger surface area for increased grip.
Concave studs get sharper as they wear. Unlike some of the lesser expensive studded tires from companies like Kenda or Innova that use a solid steel studs all
45NRTH studded tires use a carbide pin.
Winter road and patch conditions can change at a moments notice, that''s why
45NRTH designed the
Gravdal thread pattern, stud locations and shape to be fast rolling when ran toward the higher end of the air pressure range making them perfect for freshly cleared roads. If conditions call for more grip air the tires down to the minimum pressure and get the maximum benefit of all 216 studs gripping the ground.
Like all
studded tires there is a break-in period with the
Gravdal. During this time it is common to loose some studs and this is NOT considered a defect or warranty issue. The
45NRTH stud replacement tool and
studs are available separately.
