I've been using the Ultra Light mirror for years. My only complaint is the cheap plastic it's made from - I'd gladly accept a little more weight if it were made from stronger materials and lasted longer. But it's still the best mirror for me, even if I have to buy replacements every so often.
I use it on drop-bar road bikes. I affix the mirror very close to the bar end.
- When in the drops, I'm able to look in the mirror simply by moving my eyes. No need to move my whole head.
- When on the hoods, my view is blocked. I have to move my head and/or arms to check the mirror. Not a big deal.
- When on the tops, I'm able to look in the mirror by moving my head and looking down at the mirror. Not a big deal.
It attaches via a strap. Ensure the strap is tight, and you'll have a rock-solid attachment, i.e. the mirror WILL be usable when riding over all but "really rough" road.
Sticking out from the lower end of the drop-bar isn't a problem for me. If I want to lean the left side of the bike against a wall, I simply turn the handlebars a little.
So, IME it works best for a drop-bar road bike when in the drops. Not surprisingly, that's where I spend most of my riding time.
Finally, I have tried other mirrors and find this one works best for me. All others I've tried have been too small and/or too loose (attachment isn't strong enough - mirror is constantly wobbling, and therefore useless) and/or in a bad spot.
