Q.
asked by: a guest
Is the commuter 4 vegan?
A.
anwered by: canteau
The Keen Commuter uses Polyester webbing paired with a TPU sole which are both synthetic materials so we would assume that unless there is an animal-based glue they could be considered vegan.
Keen doesn't certify any of their shoes as vegan and could not confirm what types of adhesives they use.

Would it damage these sandals to wear them into the water at the beach?
A.
anwered by: canteau
The Keen Commuter itself is made from high-quality synthetic materials and will not get damaged by water in the form of rain, lakes or the ocean.
Where you will run into issues is in the cleat area. If you plan on using them in freshwater a high-quality waterproof grease should be used on the bolt threads to prevent the bolts from rusting into the sandal. Salt water might cause more issues with corrosion on both the cleat bolts and also your pedals if the Keen sandals aren't completely dry before riding again.

Do men's sizes in these Keen biking sandals run wider than the women's same size?
A.
anwered by: canteau
Yes, the Men's sizing is going to have more volume than the equivalent size in a Women's shoe.
The Keen Commuter does run narrower than the rest of the Keen sandal lineup.

gmm...@gm...l.comGreat sandal to ride in warmer weather. Sandal is very comfortable to walk in also.

trout114I was excited to find these available at Tree Fort Bikes in lots of sizes including 14! Never had bike shoes before but rode in Keens. The stiffness of the commuter really helps efficiency and reduce foot fatigue. They are slightly narrower than normal Keens but the webbing allows them to accommodate wider feet better than a leather shoe would.

A GuestHave 4 pairs of keen sandals. The bottom sole came completely separate after about one year of light use. All four pairs have same defects. I repaired it by using crazy glue but only last about 2-3 months. For such expensive sandals I think Keen should review and use better glue for bonding the bottom sole. Meanwhile Keen should send at least good glue to customers to fix the problem of something should never happen.

ScottMcI've been using these for years. They are the best cleated sandals I've seen so far. Back before the Keen's came out, I tried Shimano's sandals multiple times but they were so uncomfortable I couldn't even walk around the store in them for 5 minutes.
My feet sweat a bit. I can wear leather sandals without socks, but I find I have to wear socks with the Keens because the footbed absorbs nothing and they get both sticky and stinky. With socks, they're fine. I use these with Crank Bros cleats and they have plenty of clearance, so walking doesn't wear the cleats down. Eventually, if you have them long enough, the sole wears thin and the cleats begin to wear. At that point, I build the soles back up with shoe goo. They take it well and are good for a few more years. The uppers are tough. They're just beginning to show some wear, after about 10 years.
What could be improved? Reduce the weight, add a footbed that wicks moisture, otherwise great sandals.
