2014 B-side 650b (27.5") Mountain Frame
650b (27.5") is catching on the in the mountain bike world as a size halfway inbetween 26" and 29" tires. Fans say that they feature the best of both worlds; 650b tires roll over obstacles better and are more stable at speed than a 26" wheel, but they are lighter and less unwieldy than a 29er wheel. Soma's B-Side is a versatile steel steel machine which features
Tange/IRD Sliding Dropouts which allow for hassle-free singlespeed or geared setups.
New for 2014, Soma has slackened the head tube angle for a more modern, relaxed "ready" position, and included a beefier head tube that will accept tapered forks for maximum compatibility.
THE GOOD STUFF:
- Tapered 44mm head tube
- Updated geometry designed around a 100mm (69 deg HTA) or 120mm (68 deg HTA) fork for a more all-mountain feel.
- Tange Prestige heat-treated butted CrMo steel; butted CrMo rear end
- Disc brakes only (no canti studs)
- Tange/IRD Sliding Dropouts allow geared and single-speed builds with easy wheel removal
- S-bend seatstays and chainstays
- Low sloping top tube/short seat tube
- 27.2mm post size/28.6mm frt. der. size/29.8mm(or 30.0) seat collar
- Recommended tire size: 1.95 - 2.4"
- Color: Pumpkin Orange

hpiguyThe staff at Tree Fort were great in helping me get the sizing right on this frame. I'm 6'2" also, with a 32-33" inseam. I ended up going with the 20.5 with a 90mm stem for my SS build. The Tange tubing is butter smooth on chop and braking bumps, yet stiff and lively where it's needed. I have my fork set at 100mm, and it carves turns like a scalpel, but is very stable when cornering and descending. That stability makes for a lot of confidence when committing to a line. It has quickly become my favorite bike in the stable. I LOVE THIS THING!

Jeremykcook1976I really could not be happier with this frame. I wanted a steel hardtail that could do both geared and single speed duties and this fits the bill perfectly. This frame has updated geometry and I really like the 44mm headtube size along with the sliding dropouts. You can really set this bike up in a lot of different configerations.
I'm 6'2" with about a 34" inseam. The Large (20.5) frame fits me really well. I could probably have also went one size down if I wanted. A 95mm stem put my reach right where I like it.
The 20.5 inch frame weighed in at 5.09lbs.
I did receive a defective frame at first, but the guys at Tree Fort were great to work with and they hooked me up with a replacement frame with no problems what-so-ever. Soma makes quality frames so I think I just had some dumb luck on that first frame. The real test of a retailer is in how they handle a problem and these Tree Fort guys were great!
