2014 Wolvhammer non-SPD Winter Cycling Boot
When
45North released the
Wolvhammer last year, they introduced a winter cycling boot that transcended typical cycling shoes. This year they are offering a non-SPD verison for flat pedal riders. Inspired by mountaineering designs, the
Wolvhammer is packed with 200g of Thinsulate around the forefoot, and a NASA approved aerogel footbed protects your foot from cold.
Outside protection is handled by 1000-denier Cordura for abrasion resistance and a waterproof-breathable Sympatex membrane keeps out cold, wet snowmelt while managing perspiration from within.
The sole is designed specifically for flat pedals, and features Mountain Rubber by Vibram.
- Mid-calf height is the highest of any cycling boot available
- Inner boot uses a pull tab and simple cinch lock lacing for easy on/off even while wearing gloves, synthetic fur ankle piping maintains inner warmth
- Fleece lined outer boot keeps out cold and moisture with a covered zipper and secure velcro adjustment strap
- Gaiter hook on front of boot allows easy and secure attachment of gaiters (not included)
- Cordura and leather outer provide protection from mud, snow, and salt

TakahiroI commute to work in Minnesota. Wolvhammer keeps my feet warm at single digit degree Fahrenheit with no problem. One day it was below 3 degree and I could feel my toes just a little cold in Wolvhammer, but it was still comfortable riding to work. I like the design and they keep my feet dry all the time. I am very happy to have chosen Wolvhammer!

jcfalconerThis is a good, warm boot for winter biking on platform pedals. These won't do clipless. I wear a 10.5 and I ordered 11 to give a little extra room for 2 pair of thin socks. They seem to fit just right. My feet stay warm in these down to about -10 F, but I have noticed that the insoles are getting a little bump between the toes and the ball, perhaps because I curl my toes when I think I'm about to die on my fat bike. So I may need to replace the insoles. I definitely recommend wearing a long pair of socks with these on, as the top of the boot where the zipper stops once rubbed a nasty sore on my leg when I wore socks too short. These boots aren't great for walking around. The outsoles are very rigid and don't feel very stable on the hard ground.

Buka888Have not used these yet but the fit is great. Really feel like they will be toasty warm. Size 47 fit my size 13 feet perfect!

mnasvadiI've used these boots a bunch now and in nothing below 25 degrees so please take this into consideration. With that said these boots keep my feet very warm during 10-20 mile rides. I usually ride around a lake which can be particularly windy and my feet were comfortable the entire time. I even bombed a few huge puddles and part of the shore just because I knew my feet wouldn't get wet. The fuzzy part on the inside is pretty much the most comfortable thing I have ever felt. I was only wearing a thin pair of dress socks too which leads me to my next point.
The boot itself runs a little small in my opinion. I ordered the 48 which would be a size 13 in Mens. It is snug but not uncomfortable. I'd imagine if I had thicker socks on I wouldn't be able to get this boot on. With dress socks my feet fit in just fine. I wish I would have ordered the size 50 though.
All in all the boot seems just fine and I have no real complaints. I walked through water that was about 3-4 inches deep and stayed dry and warm. What more can you ask for?
