When shopping for a budget-minded stem, it's pretty hard to do better than the Ritchey Comp 4-Axis. Leaving the exotic construction methods and high-flung performance features for the big guys, this stem instead focuses on the essentials, and it does them as well as any stem out there. It features solid 3D net forged 6061 aluminum construction with an angled slit on the steerer tube clamp that reduces stress on carbon steerers. Our personal favorite, though, is solid stainless steel hardware that doesn''t turn to butter as soon as you touch it with an allen wrench.
