Women's No. 5 Cycling Short
Whisky's Women''s No. 5 Cycling Short takes all of the features that make the
No. 3 short a great value and builds upon that to offer a short that has the features such as 8-panel construction, elastic-free leg openings, Wide elastic free waist band and a ventilated chamois while still maintaining a price point that is easy to afford.
What do these features mean to you?
Panel Construction: Fabric stretches on 2 planes which are up/down and left/right. By adding panels to the short the manufacturer can orient the fabric to better align with your muscles, move with your body better and prevent bunching for increased comfort. The Whisky No. 5 short features 8 muscle hugging panels
Flat-locked Seams: When the panels are stitched together they can be cover stitched or flat-locked. Cover stitching is less expensive but creates ridge lines while flat-locked seams are more difficult to do, therefore more expensive and provide a smoother transition between panels which reduces chaffing. The stitching may not seem like a big deal in the fitting room, but it could mean the difference between walking normal or doing the "Cowboy Walk" after a 50 mile ride.
3D Formed Chamois: Ever wonder why the pad is a cycling short is called a chamois? Isn''t a chamois that the chunk of leather Dad used to use to buff his car? Well it is and not to long ago is was also a chunk of leather sewn into the seat of your shorts. We have now moved to materials that perform better that leather and can be as simple as a single layer of foam to advanced pads that are vented and have zones for different pressure points.
The Whisky No. 5 Short uses a 3D formed chamois which allows them to increase padding where you want it and remove material where you don''t all in one seamless piece. Cheaper designs accomplish this by sewing different levels of foam together, creating chaff points. The Chamois is also ventilated to provide temperature regulation and moisture management.
Elastic-Free Leg Openings: By using a band of lycra instead of elastic at the leg openings Whisky is able to give you a short that isn''t going to pinch and give you red lines around your legs after a long ride, but will still stay in place so it won''t ride up and give you the Richard Simmons look once you get off the bike.
Contoured Waist Band: The elastic-free contoured waist band means the No.5 cycling short is going to have the comfort and tummy slimming looks of a yoga pant.
If you have been thinking of getting a riding short but weren''t sure if it was something you needed or were put off by the 3 figure price tags on many of today''s short these are worth giving a try.
