45NRTH
Jaztronaut Aerogel Insole
You've heard about these footbeds from the Wolvhammer, but these are just too great to keep out of the shoes of anyone looking for a better insulating foot bed. The 45Nrth Jaztronaut is the first temperature-blocking insole designed for cycling footwear. Constructed with a 2mm panel of non-compressible aerogel insulation laminated inside durable EVA foam.
What separates the Jaztronaut from your stock footbed is the aerogel, a porous nanotechnology that has been used by NASA to insulate astronaut spacesuits. This is a great application of this material, as it has the highest thermal performance of any insulation and does not require loft to trap heat.
Simply put, these insoles say no to cold cleats, and yes to warm feet, even under pedal load.
- NASA-approved aerogel between EVA foam
- Aerogel is nano-porous and 90% air
- Maintains insulation value under pedal load
- Sizing is in Men''s Euro sizes, these can be trimmed to fit

I have the Shimano SH-MW81shoe in size 48. Would the 46-47 or the 48-50 be a better fit?

dav...@ho...l.comFor me at least, cold weather cycling is wonderful until it gets below 20 degrees and then it's only unbearable because of my toes. Local bike shop guys said only way to fix it was to get winter shoes but I wasn't ready to spend $200-300 to get some. So I decided to try getting a more robust shoe cover and these insoles (to block the cleat cold) hoping to defy the odds but alas--after both improvements I still have cold toes after an hour of riding. These insoles do work in blocking out the cleat cold from toe--I definitely notice that. The problem with my shoe (Lake road shoes) is that the Jaztronaut is thicker than my normal one so the heat advantage I gain with cleat block is lost because my toes are jammed in so tightly (all in all I'm slightly better off). So this could really work for someone if it fits your shoes well. As for me--time to start saving pennies for winter shoes...

A GuestThe size 44/45 insoles fit my Louis Garneau LS-100 size 45 shoes perfectly without triming. Overall they are an improvement over the stock insoles, but below 20 degrees F there is cold transfer from my cleats, but still bearable.

patodonnellPut these insoles in my Lake 303 boots and honestly could not tell the insulation difference from Lake insoles that came with the boots. Ride very cold winter temps here in Colorado mtns so they had good field testing. They fit well, but were not markedly different from the Lake insoles.
About the same thickness. Seem well made.

jehviUnfortunately, even after trimming these inserts to the absolute limit, they were way too tight to keep in my shoes. I wear size 44 Sidi Genius 5.5 Carbon shoes. The inserts are recommended for size 44-45. I assume road shoes have much less tolerance for excess space and the inserts more than consumed whatever was left over, even after removing the original Sidi insoles. Keeping them in, even with a thin to medium thickness sock, was borderline painful. Since my slippers have plenty of extra space I slipped them in with no problem. They do a decent job when worn around the house, but disapppointingly, it was never possible to get my foot into the shoes without feeling like they would burst. Therefore, I am unable to offer an opinion on their use out in the elements, since I never had the opportunity to test them for their intended purpose. :(

stevenrparkThe insoles did make my feet more comfortable on cold rides, and I have chronic cold feet. Yay! Though I wish they had some arch support like a normal insole. They are pretty flat and shapeless.
