Gator Hardshell Tire Steel Bead
The Gator Hardshell is for when the well known Ultra Gatorskin
isn't enough. With the terrible roads our country has, people have been asking for a more durable tire than the Ultra Gatorskin. Well here it is.
The Hardshell tire uses a reenforced tread with that features a PolyX barrier underneath that extends from should to shoulder. Couple that with the standard DuraSkin casing that extends from one bead to the other, this tire should keep you riding for a number of miles. Additionally, it has a carbon rubber compound for improved mileage.
- Weights start @ 330g for 23mm
- DuraSkin casing
- PolyX barrier (shoulder to shoulder)
- Steel Bead

ksm...@ta...r.comThese are GREAT tires. I got over 3500 miles on my first set and currently have over 2000 miles on my second set and still going strong.
I have tried Michelin Pro 4's, Bontrager R2's & R3's and none of them even come close to the Hardshells for both puncture resistance and durability.
I do a lot of road riding (over 10,000 miles so far this year). Before I switched to the Hardshells, I was getting 2 to 3 flats a month. I now have over 5500 miles on the Hardshells and have had a total of 1 flat!

A GuestGreat tires. I have over 3k on my current set, one puncture, a finishing nail through the tread and out the sidewall. I changed the tube and booted the sidewall. Still going strong.

matfamWell over 3000 miles and no sign of cords or any real wear yet. 1 flat---a 2" finishing nail went through the tread, tube and out the side wall. I booted the tire and threw in a new tube, it's still going strong. Oh, I am a pretty big guy, well into the Clyde category.

PSumpmanThis is my third set, 2@700c and 1 set of 27". Tubes have failed but each of these tires has over 4000 miles on them. They are smooth riding and get good traction on wet or dry pavement. Not a good snow tire, though, found out the hard way.

jodyrockI just put these tires on so I will have to report later on how effective they are. Right now I can say that the ride feels great: smooth and fast.
I had a bit of a problem getting the tires on the rim. It is a very tight fit, but I managed after much effort and a bit of spilt blood. I just hope the tires live up to their reputation and it will be a long time before I need to take them off.
