MRP 1x (34.9mm Seat Tube Mount)

New for 2011, the MRP 1x just got more versatile with the seat tube mount version. Developed with the 1x9 and 1x10 drivetrain in mind, the 1x simplifies your drivetrain by doing away with derailleur, bashguards or other homemade devises. Developed with World Cup powerhouse Adam Craig, the 1.x is purpose-built for cross country and CX racing.

questions about the

MRP 1x (34.9mm Seat Tube Mount)

asked by: A Visitor
Can I run a bash guard and the MRP 1X?
answered by: mlewis
Probably not, this is not designed to be used with a bash guard and you will probably not have enough clearance.
asked by: A Visitor
Is this the high mount chainguide?
answered by: cmcmann
The MTB option is the high-mount and the CX option is the low-mount.
asked by: A Visitor
Will this work on full suspension bikes?
answered by: canteau
Yes this guide should work fine on full suspension bikes.

The 1x guide is not designed to take up the chain slack that can cause dropped chains on long travel DH/FreeRide bikes that would normally use a roller guide.
asked by: wlittleman
I need one of these, but I have a 31.8 mm seat tube and BB30. Do I have any other options
answered by: bkearns
The solution we usually offer in this situation is just to use a shim on the seattube. Any front derailleur shim should work just fine to make everything peachy! Check out product 333222374418.

Review of the MRP 1x (34.9mm Seat Tube Mount):
I put this chainguide on my bike when I went from a triple chainring crank to a 1x10 setup. It works well. It's really light, and if you put the seat tube clamp in the right spot to start with, you will have plenty of height adjustability to accommodate different size chainrings just by loosening one screw and sliding the guide up and down in its track.

Only two downsides I've seen, and they're not huge..first, even with all the fasteners good and snug, you can still rock the guide forward and back a little bit. Not much, and not enough to affect how it works. Second, the fasteners have shallow, round heads and are tightened with allen keys. The one that holds the guide to the mount is too shallow and too soft..the head wore after the first couple of adjustments making it impossible to tighten the screw enough. I had a regular socket-head cap screw I used in its place and the problem is gone.

The guide works well, though. It's surprisingly solid, even with the slight fore-aft movement mentioned above. I think if you have the ability to use the version with the bottom bracket mount, that's perhaps a bit more solid. But this seat-tube mounted version is working fine for me.

Summed up: The guide is light, quiet, and works well. I would buy it again, and I'd recommend it to other 1x9 or 1x10 riders.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Kept my chain from jumping out of the chainring during spirited hammering down some "uneven" terrain. Just make sure that you have it well-placed to prevent chain rub.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the MRP 1x (34.9mm Seat Tube Mount):
I recently converted my Tallboy to a 1x10 and this fit the bill. Seems kinda flimsey at first glance, but once mounted that thing kept my chain on when riding rough trials. Add to that TreeFort's excellent service and fast shipping and your golden!

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the MRP 1x (34.9mm Seat Tube Mount):
I have several frustrations with this guide. 1) The narrow range of the chain guide leads to chain rub on my 1x10 system. 2) You only have vertical adjustment (besides the rotation of the clamp, but that should be kept straight). 3) The clamp shifts when tightened because of the hinge design, making it difficult to get the positioning just right. 4) When it is positioned "just right," the chain will still rub at one extreme or the other (or several H/L gears) on a 1x10 drivetrain. 5) The spacers included are huge in comparison to the bolt they are supposed to fit around. 6) With more than one spacer, the guide mount bolt will never reach the nut on the other side, so hope you don't need multiple.

Summed up: This guide would probably work well for 1x8 or 1x9 systems with narrower chain line ranges. Either way, it's no Paul keepe
