Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
This is the tire that I've been looking for. It works great on our trails where we have a mix of hardpack and technical rock features. I've had it out in dry conditions and in wet conditions and it has impressed me each time. The triple compound does an impressive job of hooking up on rocks, the tread pattern keeps it rolling fast and the reinforced sidewall so far seems to give the Ikon impressive durability. All this in a sub-600 gram (mine was 575 grams on my scale), 2.2 width tire - what is there to complain about?? As an added bonus, the Ikon was easy to set up tubeless on a NoTubes Crest Rim, and it has held air very well.

At this point I'm using the Ikon as a rear tire only, but I am going to give it a try as a front tire also.

I haven't had it out in muddy conditions yet - when I say I had it out in wet conditions I mean as in standing/running water wet - and I wouldn't be surprised if this tire packed up with mud fairly easily given the tight spacing of the knobs. Additionally, since the knobs are relatively low profile this might not be the best tire for loose conditions where you want the knobs to penetrate more.

Summed up: Don't let the designation of 'race tire' fool you - the Ikon is the best all around trail tire that I've used.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Beefy side walls and light weight...what's not to like? While the tread looks wimpy, it grips great. The tire rolls really well.

Summed up: Buy this tire

Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
I replaced a set of Specialized Sworks Captain (front) and Renegade (rear). The Sworks Captain had amazing traction and only weighed a little more than the Ikons. However, I tore two sidewalls before going to the Ikons. The Ikons have been very durable. The Ikons also provide MUCH better grip than the Renegade and are also much more durable. They work great on hardpack with extremely low rolling resistance. However, they also work quite well in loose conditions as long as you keep the pressure low.

Great race tire. I highly recommend them for racing and all XC riding.

Summed up: Buy these tires for the great XC performance in all conditions (except maybe mud).

Great tire for riding hard dusty single track. So far the sidewalls are showing no wear after 100 miles of rocky single track.

An outstanding XC mtb tire...lightweight, rolls fast, and hooks up surprising well in most all conditions...works well with Stans No Tubes...great for racing and riding.

Summed up: Definitely worth checking out...the Ikon is a lightweight fast-rolling tire that corners with confidence.

Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
I loved the tires when i first put them on. They roll fast and traction is good and they weigh next to nothing. They were a little hard to air up on Mavic cs29 rims. But my biggest complaint is the sidewalls. I live in PHX, AZ so it's rocky and the 1st set i bought the rear tire lasted 3 weeks before i slashed the sidewall. So i order another rear tire and i cut the sidewall on the 1st ride with it. I got the exos thinking they will be tough but i guess not. Other than that i loved the tires, i am still using the frt, i just need to find a rear tire that will hold up.

Summed up: Great tire except for the thin sidewalls.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
WOW what a great tire!!! A friend recommended them to me and they are worth every penny!! They roll with little to no resistance they are a very sticky tire too!! They have worked great in everything but mud. Corner great and have been the best tire purchase I have done. Putting on these tires front and back took off almost 700 grams of weight!!!

Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
Great balance of weight, traction, and low rolling resistance. Once you dial the pressure for your weight, it sticks well to almost anything in dry conditions. Definitely suffers in mud, but that's to be expected.

My only beef with this tire is the price and the relatively short tread life of the center lugs.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
Overall great tire. Just replaced the rear one after 700ish miles. The weight and rolling resistance is the best I've ever ridden. The EXO sidewalls have held up well in a variety of conditions from the front range of Colorado to the desert in Utah.

Not the grippiest (not sure that's a word?) tire I've had. Have been running it tubeless and can't really find the PSI sweet spot. Out of the saddle climbing on the singlespeed can have its share of spin-outs on loose trail if I'm not careful. Also, cornering is ok, but not great. I'm gonna take the weight penalty and put an Ardent 2.25 on the front and expect my cornering confidence to improve.

Summed up: There's a fine line between rolling resistance and traction.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Maxxis Ikon 3C/EXO/eXc - 29x2.20:
I am not a fan. Sure it is light and it is fast. But I tore the side wall of the exo version after only 12 miles on the trail. Only small rocks in sight when I did it too. Didn't seem right. Traction is not all there. I didn't get time to find the right pressure as it tore the sidewall. I couldn't climb much without some spin except on perfectly clean hard pack trails. Dry roots, or ruts? forget about just peddling over them. I couldn't corner without a bit of washout. So many people like this tire. I didn't get a chance to.
