Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs

The Nokian Hakkepelitta A10 700x32c tire is Nokian's most affordable 700c studded tire. With a slightly less aggressive tread pattern and a narrower profile than the other Hakkepelitta tires, the A10's are great for winter riders who may spend more time on slick pavement than ice. Made with a 58a non-toxic rubber compound this tire still provides excellent grip on snow and ice.
  • Durable gumwall casing
  • It is not uncommon to lose 5-10 studs during normal use due to friction. This does not affect performance and is not considered a defect for warranty claims
  • Nokian's final stage in production shrinks the rubber around the studs

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
Great for my suburban to urban winter commute in Boston. I'm always on pavement so no need for something gnarlier (I declare that a word). The tread makes me feel much more comfortable in snow than my slicks. Am I going to go through a foot of snow with them? No. Do you slide a bit in slush? Yes. But I'd like to see even a heavier tire that doesn't slide in slush-that's just the nature of the the beast. That said I still can get up to speed with them albeit with a little extra effort. They add only a couple minutes if that to a 20-25min commute. For the price on Tree Fort they can't be beat. I'm intrigued by the Schwalbs but at the end of the day decided extra studs (I think it's 3x?) would just slow me down-I'm not trying to bike across a lake or anything!

Summed up: Great tires for your hybrid to go fast on the dry and steady on the ice and snow!

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
If you have been riding high PSI road tires don't expect that. You need to adjust to riding on a square so expect that. You need to pucker up every now and then so expect that. It's a different experience. You'll not plow through the tundra but the grip is good and when you start to slide on ice or pack they do what they are marketed as... they keep you up. Stay on your toes... it's ice. They've done me well this Indiana winter. -Tyler

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
This was just the tire for me in Minnesota/north Dakota for winter with no clearance. Perfect clearance, fits like a 28. Tree fort bikes did a great job getting them to me fast and at a good price and cheap shipping since they didn't roll or fold the tire like other stores. I got them unhindered in a big box for 7 dollars shipping which is less than I would have paid tax at my lbs. so far I've ridden 20 miles and am still breaking them in, with no loose or unset studs to mention. I've got an instinct this will be the perfect tire for me this winter.

Fits the bill for winter training on bike paths in Columbus, OH. Tree Fort Bikes also gave me useful guidance prior to purchase.

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
I commute around Ann arbor mostly by bike and with the snowy and icy days these tyres have (do far - I installed them 3 weeks ago) served me well.
Very useful this past weekend with close to 2 inches of snow in some parts on the bike lane.
Gave me confidence to cycle in that rather than the dirty slush - good traction most of the time.

Summed up: Good for the Midwest

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
This tire was a disappointment. Maybe my mistake for thinking they would give traction on ice, when they don't. But I previously had the 'Innova Tundra Wolf Studded Snow Tire' and they were amazing. The studs gave me perfect traction on blank ice and I could ride confidently in the middle of the winter even when there were icy patches. The problem with the Innovas was that the studs wore out super quickly (~1 winter of not all that much riding). So I decided to get the Nokian tires as a replacement. When I put them on first I was pleasantly surprised that the rolling resistance was a lot lower than the Innovas. But when the melted snow froze over I quickly discovered that the lower rolling resistance came at the price of having pretty much no grip whatsoever on ice. And I guess the reason is that the Nokian has fewer studs AND they are located are further away from the center line. So if you're riding in a straight line and want to break or accelerate no stud will grip the ice and it's just rubber on ice with a complete lack or traction. I guess in a case of emergency some studs might grip once the bike starts to lean but I never felt I could trust the tires enough. So I threw the Nokians out after just a couple of rides and re-mounted the worn Innovas instead. Even with the studs almost completely gone they had better grip.

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
I bought a pair of these tires mid-winter last year due to a one month ice period on the roads here in Idaho. I used to ride a mtn bike with snow chains so I wasn't sure about simple studs on a road bike until I read some good reviews on this tire. Overall no real complaints for performance or durability. The studs bit nicely into the ice at the lowest recommended pressure and I didn't notice much of drop in speeds due to the extra friction due to a wider footprint. My simple complaint is that I wish I could mount wider tires on my road frame. Oh well.

Summed up: Great tire for the buck. This 21 mile commuter is happy with his purchase.

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
I bought these as my first foray into studded tires for my first carless winter in Minnesota.

While they do offer more grip than most standard commuting tires, I regret not having dropped just $10 or so more per tire to buy a more advanced tire.

These tires are great at riding through light snow and can handle thin ice. When you encounter a mix of the two, traction becomes a wildcard.

For the commuter who rides carefully and doesn't except much snow, these are great. For the devoted cyclist who doesn't have a car, drop more $, get better tires.

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
Use these tyres in North central Wisconsin on my daily 50 miles commute on mostly winding narrow lanes of ice covered pavement usually before the plows and gritters get out.

Was initially concerned about investing in the lower count of studs but The Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10's provide a perfect blend of stability on uneven ice patches and mobility on dry pave. With 80 psi they roll fine on dry tarmac and stable on ice.

One only notices the winter specific design in the slow stable way they corner on dry (which is actually really cool) and more important when driving over random bumpy patches of ice that could normally knock you off the bike under the wheels of passing traffic.

Summed up: Great winter tyre that is stable on ice but doesn't make your road bike feel like an old MTB.

Review of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta A10 Studded Tire 700 x 32 72 Studs:
I installed these tires on an early 80s Trek touring/multi-sport bike and they are great for winter pavement riding with small amounts of snow and ice. Anything that was more of an aggressive tire would really take away from the rolling resistance. This has been the perfect balance of grip/rolling resistance tire for a very mild upper mid-west winter in Wisconsin this year. I was still able to have plenty of room for clearance with the tires and a set of fenders on my 83 Trek 600.

Summed up: Overall it has good balance of characteristics between grip, rolling resistance, and tire clearance.
