A 7701 chain is 3/32, right?

A Shimano 7701 Dura Ace/XTR chain is not 3/32". The 7701 is a 9-Speed chain which is 11/128. 8-speed chains are going to be 3/32 such as the SRAM PC-850.
Are these cogs optimized for a 3/32 or 1/8 chain, or does it matter?
It is designed to be used with a 3/32 chain for best performance. Thanks!
