mondorescueThis chain wear indicator from Shimano is a lot larger than I thought compared to Park Tool's chain wear indicator. I opted for the Shimano despite the steep price, because it measures the chain stretch from pin wear only and doesn't include roller wear in the measurement. I'm not a bike expert, but I observed that roller wear doesn't affect chain operation and it doesn't "eat up" my sprockets and chainrings. Replacing the chain only when it really needs to be can save me a buck or two. In the long-run, those buck or two savings add up and it can help me keep my bike last longer. It is important to have quality tools if you are the wannabe pro-mechanic DIY-type like me.
