I'm not entirely sure what merits seatposts that are significantly more expensive than this one possess - but if you are building a bike more for pleasure than speed, you will be satisfied with this seatpost. I think nitto makes some slightly prettier ones for around USD 80, but if you want a seatpost that is of reasonable weight, manufacture, and doesn't have all sorts of garbage written on it (does every bike part need a red/white/black logo? Even ones without moving parts?) you will be happy with this product.
Summed up: One of the few 100% reasonable bike products sold.
Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

I weigh 240 pounds and ride my bike across town and back every day. I have used this seatpost daily for a couple of months now and really like it; no problems.
Summed up: Good basic seatpost that does the job. Why pay more?

I needed a 25mm post for a vintage Vitus 979 and did not feel like paying big bucks for a period correct piece. I was glad to see Kalloy still made one in this size. Cheap, durable and looks good on the bike. That is all I need.
I have a black one. Bought it because it was cheap. I have a Brooks saddle on it and would like a little more fine tuning on the adjustment to get the angle just right. However I can't fault it because I knew this buying the post and it is very affordable and durable.
The emphasis is on economy with this post. A great replacement for clunky steel posts on 70's and 80's frames. It's not the lightest post, but it's light for the value. It's a very clean post that can be cut down to save additional weight.
