What secures the rack strut to the rod which mounts to bikes dropout eyelet?

I'm not quite sure what you mean. You would screw this into the eyelets if that's what you're wondering.

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
Super beefy- I have no doubts that this will securely hold my panniers. The extra tubing on the sides obstructs panniers from being sucked into a spinning tire- something which will cause you to have a definite nonplussed expression. I've gotten several compliments on the aesthetics of my bike from random strangers and I believe this curvaceous rack has something to do with it. Things I'd use this rack for- confident commuting- picnics- cross country tours- a spouse to love and cherish forever.

Summed up: I wish I knew how to quit you.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
Great rack. Very Durable, and very easy to mount. Strong. I have purchased 3 (For 2 of my bikes, and girlfriends bike). No bells and whistles, just everything you need.

Cons: The width of the rear triangle where the tubes hit the top of the rack makes the rack hard for Arkel panniers to fit onto. You can make it fit, but it takes a little more work. Further, the wierd section where the tubes are double thick also makes fitting panniers more difficult.

The bike light attachment is real flimsy. For a permanent Dyno light, I created a new attachment, very easy to do, and it cost about 1$.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
The rack, once installed has worked flawlessly. I have this mounted to a Rawland Drakkar "monstercross" bike. I had to shorten the stay rods, as the angle they had to go down at, to meet the braze-ons on my frame, made the ends of them hit the bottom of the platform. Nothing a tape measure and hacksaw couldn't fix... Very solid, though.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
I have a very normal Cannondale Hybrid model. I spent a considerable amount of time researching racks because the Cannondale seat is a bit "beefy" and therefore the seat would interfere with my trunk bag on most racks. There were two options. The first was to find a rack that sits back a little. The second option was to simply purchase a "longer" rack, like the Axiom Journey Adjustable.
I should have seen a "warning flag" go up when I attempted to contact the company with some questions. I sent three emails with no response. They issue you a "ticket number" whereby someone will contact you. (Can't they just email you with a freakin' answer?) Nobody ever contacted me, even with THREE TICKET NUMBERS!!!
The rack has two rails which "appear" to be adjustable from the photos. Unfortunately they only adjust slightly up and down and not side to side. Most good quality racks can be adjusted from side to side to accommodate the wide spectrum of bike sizes.
Could the rack be fitted to my bike? I won't know because I'm sending the damn thing back today. The answer quite honestly may be yes. However it may had taken three bends in each of the two rods, and the ends may still had to be cut. This has to be done carefully if you are a perfectionist like me. You should wrap the rods with cloth before placing them in a vice. Even then it's doubtful you could carry this out and still have a level rack.
If you want to try may I suggest removing the rods and inserting a thick pipe cleaner as a template. You then can bend the pipe cleaner the exact way it needs to be. Carefully remove the pipe cleaner and then using that as a template attempt to bend the rods.
The Axiom Journey Adjustable wins some points for a nicely made and strikingly good looking rack. I also liked the fact it was a bit longer than most racks. However, I will not be suggesting this item to anyone due to Axioms poor customer service and most importantly, the huge challenge in installing the rack.

Summed up: You may want to pass on this one until Axiom makes some adjustments of their own ...

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
Works great and I found it very easy to install. The price is exceptional and I do not yet see any downside. The sweepback bar on the bottom is necessary for large panniers, such as the Axiom Typhoon or bigger. My previous rack, a Trek Interchange was just as solid, but once I put the panniers far enough back to clear my heels, the panniers could wobble and hit the rear wheel.

Summed up: Great rack, seems suitable for everything.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
Solid feel, and tested over a 700 mile (10 day) tour with a 34 lb load with no problems. Many more miles necessary to be conclusive, but tour did include 12 miles of road not suitable for a road bike (didn't seem to stop me).

Excellent value, solid construction and welds.

Review of the Axiom Journey Tubular Alloy Rack - Black:
I have this installed on my Specialized Allez 2010.
This is the most Value for Money Rack in the market! And treefortbikes is the Best place to buy it from!!
The main Highlight is that my Avenir triple Pannier no more hits the spokes.
I have peace of mind when I ride even with my pannier full!!

Summed up: Must buy for Commuters and Tourers !!

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.
