Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit

asked by: A Visitor
Is buying this kit the same as buying one hyper deraileur kit one hyper brake kit?
answered by: mlewis
Not quite, the Racer kit, which is now called the Road Pro kit, uses a teflon coated cable, while the Hyper kits do not.
asked by: A Visitor
Is there a Campagnolo compatible version of this cable set?
answered by: cmcmann
Unfortunately, Jagwire doesn't make cables sets for Campagnolo yet. We do sell Campy's cable sets and Yokozuna's Campagnolo compatible set.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
Just installed this kit on my bike today. I instantly noticed how much smoother and crisper the shifting and braking are compared to the older stock cables/housing that came with my bike.
Contrary to what the discription states about having "everything" included, I found that when I was installing the housing for the brakes the POP cable ends Jagwire provides wouldn't work on my bike and unfortunately they don't give you any other type of housing end caps so I had to use the old ones which were kind of a bear to pull of the old housing and install on the new.
Aside from the end caps, I'm pleased with how well this kit works.

Summed up: Smooth crisp shifting and braking, POP style caps for brakes didn't work on my bike.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
Replaced the basic black housing on my bike with this and it looks really good. It's great that the housing is compressionless, but that makes it hard to cut with regular wire cutters. I bought a generic bike cable cutter and it worked much better. So far, the cables/housing works great; I'm very pleased with the way this looks on my bike.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
The only problem was that Jagwire didn't provide enough brake houseing for the front and rear brakes. could have used 12-16 inches more for routing on 1983 trek frame.

Works on Dura Ace 7900; equal to and in my opinion a tad better than the shimano shifting cables. The brakes cables work better.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
Fantastic cable kit! I've installed and used 5 of these kits now, and likely will stick with Jagwire until I find something better, which may be a while. The brake cable housing has an ingenious section that is more flexible to allow for easier routing up to the levers, and also helps with a more neatly wrapped bar. The POP cable stops have just a tad too long of a nipple for my taste. This kit is engineered very well, the brake cables are different lengths in the kit - so check before you cut! For those that find the housing too difficult to cut, invest in some good cable cutters. This kit is well thought out and lacking in no detail. The colored tips are a nice touch, and the rubber 'tubes' are a great option to protecting the frame in stead of the tacky stickers that get discolored with age. I find the Jagwire insignia on the ferrules to be noticeable without being tacky. The cables, while the most miles I have on one bike is around 1,000 have had less stretch than what I usually encounter with a set of cables. I've had kits come with both the black teflon coated cables, as well as the stainless - not sure of the difference, but I do prefer the teflon coated.

Summed up: Bottom line - you can't go wrong with this kit!

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Very good cables, nice color and super snappy. I am using this with my Campy Record and with only 100m so far I'll say they are pretty nice.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
I have installed these cables on my cross bike and both road bikes. A good upgrade over OEM cables, and a good choice for a new build. Shifting is crisp, and braking feels solid without that "mushy" feeling. The housings are on the stiff side, and you will need a quality pair of cable cutters for a clean cut. The housing and cable lengths as supplied are more than long enough. My only dislike is the POP brake cable ends that Jagwire supplies, they are not compatible with the hardware on my bikes. Went to the LBS and purchased some standard cable ends. Otherwise a great set of cables that I would buy again.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
I really like this kit. I installed it on an 80's Centurion, 52 cm. Even with a full run of the brake housing on the top tube, I had 5 inches or so of housing left over. I ordered the gold color, and it came with teflon-coated cables. The gold looked really nice, and the feel of the brakes and shifters after all was said and done was great.

I cut all my cables and housing with a dremel and cutoff wheel, and other than a little bit of kevlar fraying around the brake cable housing, had no problems.

Summed up: The gold looks great, even has matching cable ends. Easy install, you won't regret buying this kit.

Shifts/brakes well, but as mentioned, the POP ends for the brake cable housing don't work with many frames. Not the end of the world, but annoying.

Review of the Jagwire Road Pro Complete Road Brake & Derailleur DIY Kit:
While I bought this kit for my Salsa Vaya with drop bars, it DOES NOT have full length brake housing for both front and back in this kit. It would work well with a traditional road brakes (calipers/cantilever) with normal frame stops, it won't work on full length cables needed for disc brakes.

I ended up using the Jagwire Ripcord Mountain kit, and then bought separate Teflon and Stainless Brake Wires (Road) for the drop bar shifters.

Summed up: Great for traditional road bikes, not for disc brake road bikes.

Good quality cables and housing.. The only problem is that they do not supply you with enough housing!!! Very frustrating!!!

Summed up: Add atleast one more foot of housing! Otherwise, this product is a total waste because you'll have to buy additional housin
