SRAM 2009 PC-991 Cross Step Chain

  • Bulged outer plates with Step processed chrome hardened rivet pins
  • Chamfered inner side plates for fast, smooth, quiet shifts
  • Chains are all SRAM and Shimano compatible
  • 9sp gold PowerLink connector opens and closes without tools

The Tree Fort Bikes Take:

The PC-991 Cross Step is SRAM's Strongest chain, they rivet the chain on two planes which makes the chain much stronger when they use a normal chain riveting process. If you're looking for a super strong chain for mountain or road use, this is a great choice.

Review of the SRAM 2009 PC-991 Cross Step Chain:
After breaking a PC-970 on my morning commute and nearly crashing in the process, I decided to go with a stronger chain. After a few hours of research, I decided on the 991 Cross step. SRAM does a double riveting process on this chain so it's a lot harder to pop the chain at the rivets. I've been riding the cross step chain on most of my bikes since then and I haven't had a single one break. For such a strong chain, it's a good price too.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the SRAM 2009 PC-991 Cross Step Chain:
This is my go-to chain for my cross country full suspension. It lasts about a season for general hard use. I lube my chains regularly, but don't clean stuff often enough so I guess one season is fair. I love how well this shifts for the life of the chain and if it gets just a little far in stretching I'll replace the rear cassette with a 990 to get back on track. I recommend checking the chain with a cc-2 as it's very accurate, easy to use and consistent.

Summed up: My favorite chain yet.... Shifts like a dream.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the SRAM 2009 PC-991 Cross Step Chain:
Since I am a heavier rider I wanted a stronger chain to handle the torque I apply during a climb. This chain is rock solid, and I really like the sram power link. It made installation a snap (literally). Chain is smooth running, quiet and shifts perfectly.

Summed up: If you are looking for a stronger chain, with an easy install this is it. Highly recommend. Also, Tree Fort has the best price.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the SRAM 2009 PC-991 Cross Step Chain:
Very good chain. Spend the extra money and upgrade to this chain. When paired with a new SRAM cassette, the shifting is as good as new. Feels much more solid and durable than the Shimano chain that came on my MTB.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

So far so good but have only ridden it twice for about 45 miles. I ride pretty hard on some rough trails.

Review of the SRAM 2009 PC-991 Cross Step Chain:
After breaking 4 PC-971 chains on some rough and hilly trails within 3 months, I decided to give this a try. So far, I've been using this chain for a few years with no breaks, kinks, snaps, problems of any kind. I usually get about 700-800 miles from one chain before it starts stretching, I think that's pretty good considering all the torque and pressure i put on it. I pair it with a Shimano HG-61 cassette, and it works perfectly! I am a life-long user and believer of this chain and will never use anything else! I use this for XC races as well, it's good to know that it's one thing you don't have to worry about when sprinting up a steep hill.

Summed up: For a strong chain, you can't go wrong here!

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.
