all about the

Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers

Many derailleur chains use a "master link" that allows the chain to be installed and removed by hand. While this type of master link doesn't require a traditional chain tool, over time, dirt and corrosion can make it difficult to separate by hand. Not only can dirt and time make things hard, the awkward and dirty grasp needed to get master links apart make it feel like you'll need to stand on your head and pour sticky grease over your hands to get them apart. Park's MLP-1 Master Link Pliers make removal and replacement of master links quick and effortless! Simply insert the specially sized jaws into the master link and squeeze the handles.
  • Effortless master link removal
  • Mess free removal
  • Comfy padded handles
  • Park Tool blue to match your other tools
questions about the

Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers

asked by: aholman
Do they work on KMC and Wipperman chains?
answered by: canteau
They should work on all links that use the opposing pin design.

Some of the KMC links are designed to be no removable and need to be taken off with a chain tool.
asked by: goodoljake
Will this remove the sram 10-speed power link?
answered by: mwirth
Yes these work great on SRAM chains!

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
This inexpensive and easy to use tool greatly facilitates a messy and sometimes difficult task. Add nitrile rubber gloves, and you will find removing any chain with a master link for repair, replacement, or cleaning is no longer a chore. Pretty much everyone I have demonstrated the tool to has bought one for themeslves.

Summed up: Does what you expect of it, and does it well.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
Fabulous tool ! I hope Shimano goes to a master link that will take advantage of this type of mechanism.

Summed up: I now prefer to use a master link mechanism versus a Shimano chain pin.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
The Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pilers work like a champ. Very easy to use. My KMC chain has a master link that is pretty easy to remove just with my bare hands, but this tool simplifies things to the point of not having to worry about pinched skin, or having to force anything. Just grip the removable link with the pliers, and squeeze. Off comes the link, and the chain is then easy to remove to clean or replace.

Separate Note: KMC doesn't recommend reusing a MissingLink more than 2-3 times. In the manual it may say not to reuse it at all, but their service people say it's okay to reuse it. If you reuse it too much it may fall off by itself, I think.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
This tool makes easy work of a messy job. By hand, sometimes those little quick links come apart easily but most of the time they don't. With this tool it makes it so easy that it is ridiculous!

Summed up: A must have for any home mechanic.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
It's not an essential tool since master links aren't that hard to open. BUT if you're doing it regularly it sure takes the pain out of opening stubborn ones. Definitely recommended highly for anyone that does a lot of wrenching.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Makes swapping cogs/chains on my SS quick and painless. I used to use needle-nose pliers and it was still a struggle. These pliers eliminate the issue.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
If you don't have a master link in your chain, Why not?

And if you do have a master link, you need this. Yeah you can do it with a set of needle nose pliers. Or your hands. But this makes it like a one second thing. Instead of taking off your chain to clean once a season, why not take it off once a week. Or after every race?

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
As annoying as it is to have to buy a special-purpose tool for something as dumb as opening a master link, having struggled far too long with needle-nose pliers on a slippery, stubborn one, I'm a convert. This tool makes it easy, fast, and about as no-fuss as it's possible to get with a chain.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
I join the other reviewers.

A perfect, simple tool that eliminates a frustrating job. I could never open a master link with bare hands once the bike had been ridden, and standard pliers don't fit or slip off.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Review of the Park MLP-1 Master Chain Link Pliers:
I tried working on my bike without this tool and I was frustrated all the time. I didn't even know about the tool until I saw it on the website. I figured for $10 it's worth the chance that it would be amazing or not. Well, after using it to make chain adjustments on while building my bike I can attest that it is well worth the $10. It makes removing a chain so easy I just might start cleaning it more often, maybe.

Summed up: Stop thinking about it and get it!

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

These things are just too clever and easy to use not to have a set. I have 4 recumbent trikes with chains 13'-14' long and these babies make my life much easier.
